CASE REGISTERED AGAINST CONGRESS WORKER ALSO FOR BEATING UP WIFE OF AN AAP WORKER.
BATHINDA:The police have booked Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate from Rampura Phul assembly segment Manjit Singh Sidhu and 13 other party workers for allegedly attacking a Congress worker in the town on Monday.
Besides Sidhu, those booked include AAP workers Pawan Kumar and his son Sahil Kumar, Inderjit Singh, Umesh Garg and Nonu Bhalla and eight unidentified people. Sahil has been arrested.
A case under sections 452 (house trespass), 323 (voluntary causing hurt), 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon) has been registered against all accused at the Rampura City police station.
The accused allegedly entered the house of former AAP worker Jaskaran Bansal on Monday and beat him up. Bansal had quit the AAP and joined the Congress before assembly polls.
Meanwhile, Sidhu said that the Congress has started doing the same as was done by the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) by targeting political opponents through police by registering false cases.
“No AAP worker beat up Jaskaran. Rather Bansal beat up the wife and pregnant daughter-inlaw of our supporter Pawan Kumar, who is Bansal's neighbourer. Jaskaran was active in the AAP and wanted to contest assembly polls from the Rampura Phul segment. After I was fielded by the party, he joined the Congress and used to ask Pawan why he was working for the AAP,” he said.
“A heated exchange had taken place between AAP workers and Jaskaran, but he was not beaten up. The police booked AAP workers under severe sections while a case under Section 323 was registered on a complaint of the woman,” said Sidhu.
Station house officer, Rampura City police station, Kanwaljit Singh, said that based on a complaint by Meetu Rani wife of the arrested accused Sahil Kumar. the police have registered a case against Jaskaran Bansal and Ashoki Ambika under Section 323 (voluntary causing hurt) of the IPC.
