Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Capt Amarinder Singh today said that Anna Hazare will feel ashamed of Akalis supporting his movement once he gets to know level of corruption they have indulged in.

Addressing a press conference here today, Capt Amarinder said, it was ridiculous that Akalis were claiming to be supporting him and enacting the farce of staging dharnas in his support when they were themselves mired neck deep in corruption. That is why, he added, their dharnas did not evince any interest among the people in Punjab today.

Replying to a question about public support to Anna’s movement, the PCC President said, it was quite understandable that people were very much fed up with the corruption prevailing in different walks of life and that is why people were identifying themselves with him. However, at the same time Capt Amarinder clarified, Anna’s approach was not right. He pointed out, only the Parliament had the authority to legislate and make laws. “Each one of us is represented in the Parliament and if you don’t like your MP don’t vote for him”, he said, while adding, questioning the authority of the Parliament is not right.

He asserted, it was wrong on part of Anna and his supporters that they and not the Parliament should draft the Lokpal Bill as it amounts to undermining the authority of the Parliament.

The PCC President said, the movement will not have any impact on Punjab since, people over here knew how much thoroughly corrupt the Akalis were. “They want to get rid of them at the earliest given chance”, he remarked.
