Congress legislator Jassi Khangura has asked Peona Power Development Limited to either cancel the controversial project in Gobindpura or pay substantial compensation to farmers for their land.
In a letter to the company's managing director, the MLA from Qila Raipur has written that there has not been an open tender for the project, and the Gurgaon round of talks in this regard with deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal had failed.
“No open tender, premature land acquisition, inappropriate meetings at questionable premises, and no regulatory clearance: no wonder there are calls for the project to be cancelled and the Central Bureau of Investigation to enter the scene,“ Khangura wrote to the company's MD, Rajiv Rattan.
“No environmental clearance, no coal linkage: is there any real intent to build the project?“ The Congress MLA also asked the company to explore the possibility of relocating the project to a site where all farmers would accept its terms of land acquisition.
