CHANDIGARH, August 30: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Capt Amarinder Singh today welcomed the inquiry ordered by the Punjab Lokpal against the Chief Minister Mr Parkash Singh Badal and former SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur for illegally grabbing 12 acres of Nagar Panchayat land in village Begowal in district Kapurthala.

Referring to the inquiry, Capt Amarinder hoped that it will expose the rampant corruption the Akalis have indulged in. Blaming the Chief Minister for patronising Bibi Jagir Kaur and supporting her in the illegal occupation of the Begowal Nagar Panchayat Land worth about Rs 100 crores, he said, it is matter of time only when the ruling party will be exposed about their corrupt practices.

The PCC President also ridiculed the statement of the Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal that the case was a political gimmick. “By saying so does Sukhbir question the credentials of the Lokpal?” he asked.

The former Chief Minister also referred to the recent protests by the Akalis and the hue and cry raised by Mr Badal and Sukhbir during Anna Hazare’s agitation. “Even then we had said that Anna would be ashamed of their support and now our stand has started getting vindicated”, he remarked, while adding, Begowal encroachment is just the tip of the iceberg while much more is to follow.
