Ridiculing Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal’s unsolicited presence at the fast of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Capt Amarinder Singh on Saturday said it only betrayed his (Badal’s) double standards in politics.

He reminded Badal that he was the architect of the division of Punjab along communal lines in 1966. “You were at the forefront of the Punjabi Suba movement that divided Punjab along the communal lines slashing away Hindu majority areas into Haryana and Himachal Pradesh in order to achieve Sikh majority in Punjab”, he told Badal while asking him with what face he had gone to attend Modi’s sadbhavna fast, which in itself is just a political gimmick, now.

“Still the Akalis despite making Punjab a Sikh majority province could not achieve political majority of their own and had to align with the BJP in its different avatars at different times”, he said, while adding, Badal’s unsolicited presence at Modi’s fast is purely aimed at the next assembly elections in Punjab.

While Badal is free to roam around and attend Modi’s fast, he owes an explanation to the people of Punjab to clarify his position on certain important issues, Capt Singh said.
