Leader of Opposition in the Punjab Assembly Rajinder Kaur Bhattal has lambasted pressure tactics of SAD in capturing the SGPC elections which were held on Sunday.
Bhattal said just as Afghan invader Ahmed Shah Abdali attacked India to loot Somnath Temple, the Akalis adopted every possible means to loot the Guru’s golak. She said they were not even ashamed of using the official machinery for this purpose.
‘The SAD has suffered a moral defeat in the SGPC elections,’ she said.
Bhattal said not only the Sehajdharis, even men with shorn hair and trimmed beards casted their votes without any objection raised by polling officers. She said it was obvious that both the candidate as well as the polling officers enjoyed the sanction of the ruling party.
She added that even though the Sehajdhari issue had raised a great storm in the media in the past two months, casting of votes by them showed that it was not the means but the ends which matters to the two Badals.
Bhattal commented that the way SGPC elections were fought and won, it clearly underlined that SAD did not want to loosen its hold on the SGPC even if it had to stoop to any length.
She predicted that in the coming Assembly elections, the Congress would achieve a sweeping victory while consigning the SAD-BJP combine to the dustbin of political history.
