Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Capt Amarinder Singh will take up the issue of the employment of hundreds of workers employed for implementing the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) with central government.

Capt Amarinder told a delegation which met him here under the leadership of youth Congress leader Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary that he will write to the Union Minister for Rural Development Mr Jairam Ramesh and also follow it up personally.

The delegation told him that there were about 12000 posts lying vacant in Punjab. That was the reason the MNREGA was could not be properly implemented in Punjab, said Chaudhary.

The PCC President criticised the Akali-BJP government for not employing these people despite the vacancies and funds available from the centre. He said, this government was most insensitive towards the needs of the youth and promised that once Congress comes to power they will be suitably accommodated.

MNREGS Contract Employees union members are sitting on Dharna since October 10 last demanding proper pay scale and job security.

Prominent among those present on the occasion included the PCC general secretary Arvind Khanna, District congress president Pawan Dewan and MLA Jassi Khangura.
