Asking the government not to push the unemployed protesting youth to the wall, the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Captain Amarinder Singh on Thursday called for more humane approach in handling them.

He expressed concern over the deteriorating condition of a protesting EGS (Education Guarantee Scheme) teacher at Guru Gobind Singh Medical College Faridkot, who is reported to be struggling for life after multiple organ failure following a long fast unto death.

Expressing grave concern over the sequence of events during the last few days, Captain lashed out at the “insensitivity” of the state government towards handling the problem saying lathi is no answer to the questions of the unemployed.

“They want jobs and they are seeking these from the government as they have nowhere else to go”, he pointed out, while asking the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to be more kind in dealing with these protestors.

Referring to the critical condition of a teacher Zile Singh, in the Faridkot Medical College, the PCC President asked the government as why his condition was allowed to deteriorate.

“It is criminal and shameful on the part of the government to deliberately let his condition to deteriorate apparently with the sole purpose to discourage others from sitting on fast unto death”, he observed.

He said, it is quite an alarming situation that the youth are feeling so frustrated that they don’t hesitate in taking their own lives.

“We need to understand their frustration”, he observed, while regretting that instead the government was confronting them with lathis and lashes.
