Opposition leader in the state Assembly Rajinder Kaur Bhattal claimed that the Congress party in Punjab would enter the corridors of power with an absolute majority. Bhattal was on a thanksgiving spree at Khanauri, Moonak and Lehra under the Lehra Assembly segment represented by her on Saturday.

When her attention was drawn about the declaration of Capt. Amarinder Singh as Chief Minister by party general secretary Rahul Gandhi during his election campaigning, she evaded a direct reply saying: “It is a general precedent of party that the Congress legislature party schedules a meeting on directions of party President Sonia Gandhi that elects its leader.”

Reacting to the prediction of Punjab People’s Party (PPP) president Manpreet Singh Badal of getting verdict for balance in their hands in forming the next government, Bhattal quipped that when Manpreet himself was facing a demoralizing defeat then the fate of his nominees could be well assessed. When questioned about the fate of rebels who entered the fray defying the party whip, she said the party high command would take a final decision about them.
