Punjab CLP leader Sunil Jakhar on Wednesday lashes out at the SAD-BJP government saying that common man should see through SAD-BJP hypocrisy of ‘Raaj nahi Sewa’ slogan, which in fact is ‘Raaj atay mewa’ (make money as you rule). While speaking during a programme organised by knitwear club to mark their protest against the hike in power tariff he said, “True colours Akali-BJP government like those of chameleon is coming out and the present exorbitant hike of almost 13 per cent in electricity tariffs in commercial and residential is unjust and not acceptable. People will have to pay more for the electricity they don’t get.”

Sunil Jakhar said, “SAD-BJP had made availability of electricity a major plank of their development agenda and in 2004 had promised to provide round the clock affordable power in three years.”

“But with the present hike in power tariff the electricity is now neither affordable nor available due unprofessional management of electricity boards. The industry in Punjab will have no option but to shut down their shops as it will be unviable to meet electricity expenses,” he added.

“Of the five thermal plants in the pipeline for producing 7,220 MW power, more than 3,960 MW to be produced by NTPC and Indiabulls may not see the light of day as per reports being published in media,” said Jakhar.

On the occasion he said, “The Punjab Congress will soon launch state wide protest against the government to extort money through such measures.”
