As many as 14 Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers of Punjab cadre have failed to submit their immovable property returns (IPRs) for 2011 to the government so far.
As per the service norms, an all-India service officer is bound to file property return of a year by January end of the following year, failing which promotion and empanelment to senior-level postings could be denied.
The extended deadline to file IPRs for the previous year had also expired on May 31 but these bureaucrats have not yet bothered to furnish the details of their assets. The development assumes significance as Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and Chief Secretary Rakesh Singh had last month asked the defaulter IAS officers to submit their IPRs forthwith. With 14 defaulters, Punjab ranked third state in the country after the highest number of 32 defaulters in Madhya Pradesh and 16 in Uttar Pradesh.
Seven IAS officers of Punjab had also not yet filed their IPRs for the fiscal 2010-11. According to a latest data from the Union Department of Personnel and Training, there are 127 IAS officers in the country who have not yet submitted their IPRs.
