Punjab's former Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh was today permitted by the Punjab and Haryana High Court to go abroad. Acting on his petition, Justice MMS Bedi directed Capt Amarinder Singh to furnish a bail bond of Rs 3 lakh before a Mohali court as surety.
In his petition, Amarinder asserted that he wanted to go abroad for 20 days from July 27 to August 15.
Elaborating on the purpose of his visit, Amarinder said he was leading a 14-member delegation to study wildlife in the Republic of South Africa and any delay in the permission would defeat the purpose.
He was booked by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau on September 11, 2008, at a police station in Mohali for cheating and other offences under sections 420, 458, 467, 471 and 120-B of the IPC and sections 7 and 13 of the Prevention of Corruption Act. The case is currently pending trial at a Mohali court.
