CM FOR ACTION AGAINST COPS AIDING DRUG TRAFFICKERS

CHANDIGARH: Punjab chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh on Friday directed the head of the special task force (STF) on drugs to identify and take action against police officials found to be in collusion with drug traffickers, especially those posted in the border districts of the state.
He directed additional director general of police (ADGP) Gurpreet Kaur Deo, head of the STF, to constitute two STF teams in all border districts to work in close coordination with the police officials concerned and maintain strict vigil over their nefarious activities in order to eradicate the scourge of drugs.
On the issue of fast-tracking the extradition of accomplices in Jagdish Bhola case, the CM asked the chief secretary to take up the matter with the ministry of external affairs to bring all the accused to book at the earliest.
He also asked the state advocate general to form a panel of advocates, including retired judges, lawyers, legal experts and jurists, to impart practical training to the police personnel to enable them to effectively present their cases in the courts.
ASI AMONG THREE COPS HELD FOR EXTORTION AMRITSAR: The rural police on Friday arrested three policemen, including an assistant sub-inspector (ASI), for allegedly extorting ₹1.35 lakh from a youth by threatening to book him in a drug case. The two other cops involved are absconding.
The accused, identified as ASI Narinderpal Singh, constables Kanwarpal Singh and Pargat Singh have been arrested, while head-constables (HCs) Palwinder Singh and Kawaljit Singh are absconding. The ASI had been deployed at a checkpost in Beas town while the other four had been working in Amritsar rural police’s anti-narcotics wing.
Senior suprintendent of police (SSP-rural) Vikramjit Singh Duggal said Jagjit Singh of Chawinda Devi village lodged a complaint with the station house officer (SHO) of Kathunangal police station, alleging that the accused had extorted Rs 1.30 lakh from him over a threat of booking his son in a false drug case.
