Nawanshahar : Senior Congress leader and Anandpur Sahib MP Manish Tewari has urged the Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh for early implementation of the project for low voltage electrified wire fencing along the Kandi belt to prevent wild animals from damaging the crops. Tewari has also sought the early execution of the plans to set up industrial zone along the Kandi belt, most of which falls within the Anandpur Sahib Parliamentary constituency.

Disclosing this here today, the MP said he had written separate letters to the CM seeking his immediate attention and intervention to ensure that both these projects are implemented on time. “In the Kandi areas of Punjab there is a serious problem of damage to crops because of the menace of wild animals running amuck and our government remains committed to curb the menace of wild animals in the Kandi area,” he wrote in the letter while referring to the Chief Minister’s earlier announcement on the matter. He said during the Parliamentary election campaign the CM had told him that a possible holistic solution to the above mentioned could be a 309 km electrified fence with low voltage current running through it that stretches one end of the Kandi region to the other.

He said the project would cost about Rs 300 crore. It would become the first line of protection for farmers of the Kandi area, he added. The MP also urged the Chief Minister to constitute the Kandi Area Development Board for the holistic development of the area with representation of MPs and MLAs. He said the constitution of the board will be first step towards transforming the area and ensuring basic amenities like proper roads and drinking water to the residents.
