Bathinda : Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh has honoured Talwandi Sabo Power Limited (TSPL) officials with the environment awareness award. The award has been given to TSPL for increasing greenery in the region and creating awareness by using fly ash in making bricks.
Chief Operating Officer Chavi Nath Singh and Vikas Sharma received the award on behalf of company from the CM. A state-level function was organised to mark World Environment Day and first anniversary of Punjab government’s flagship project, ‘Mission Tandarust Punjab’ at IIT Ropar. During this event, CM of Punjab Captain Amarinder Singh honoured TSPL with Environment Excellence Award for commendable efforts for strengthening green belt in the area and for spreading awareness for usage of fly ash in brick manufacturing and infrastructure projects. Every year, the state government celebrates World Environment Day on June 5 at large scale and appreciates industries and researchers that have carried out remarkable works in the field of environmental management. In FY 2018-19, under Punjab government’s project ‘Mission Tandrust Punjab’ TSPL planted 30,000 saplings in Mansa, Talwandi Sabo town and nearby villages to improve the ambient air quality and to increase the green cover in the region. In addition to this, to promote thermal fly ash utilisation on large scale in brick kilns and to conserve top soil, TSPL organised awareness sessions and onsite demonstrations in coordination with Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB). As a result, nearby brick kilns initiated usage of thermal fly ash in clay bricks manufacturing process by mixing up to 23 per cent by volume. TSPL is the first thermal plant to execute this pilot project in Punjab which was also presented in International Conference on Energy and Environment: Challenges and Opportunities (ENCO 2019) organised by CIMFR (Centre Institute of Mining and Fuel Research).
