New Delhi : Punjab MPs today participated in the Lok Sabha debate on the Motion of Thanks on the President’s Address and raised a range of issues related to the state.

Sangrur MP Bhagwant Mann flagged the recent death of Fatehveer Singh, who died after falling into a 150-ft borewell.

“The NDRF said it only had equipment to rescue persons trapped at the depth of 40 ft. The disaster management response leaves much to be desired,” Mann said, referring to the futile 109-hour rescue operation that ended with the child being pulled out dead.

Congress MP from Patiala Preneet Kaur demanded a national debt waiver scheme for farmers. “I urge PM Modi to declare a debt waiver scheme for all farmers and urge Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to find a solution to the financial burden of Rs31,000 crore put on Punjab due to non reconciliation of our foodgrain account with the Centre,” she said.

Kaur also sought the national highway status for Patiala-Sirhind-Morinda road dotted with historical shrines and its christening after Mata Gujri, the mother of Tenth Sikh guru Guru Gobind Singh.

Mann and Kaur demanded Centre’s help to build the industry in Punjab.
