Ludhiana : In view of the cleaning of Budha Nullah, Ludhiana MP Ravneet Singh Bittu along with Punjab Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu on Thursday held a meeting with Union Minister of Jal Shakti Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in his office in New Delhi. Both the leaders sought the cooperation of the Union government for this project. After the meeting, Bittu informed that the cleaning of Budha Nullah is one of his dream projects and he has also made this promise with the people of Ludhiana. He said that the Budha Nullah (earlier known as Budha Dariya) is an old tributary of river Sutlej and once had more than 50 species of fish but unfortunately, it started losing its glory with the passage of time. Ashu stated that the problem of Budha Nullah has become a complex issue and was further effecting Rajasthan. People of Ganganagar, Hanumangarh, Bikaner, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer and Barmer districts are affected as the water of this Nullah falls into Sutlej river and later, the same water is supplied to the residents of above-mentioned areas through canals. He said that this issue is seriously affecting the health of not only residents of Rajasthan, but even of Punjab and mainly Ludhiana district. Both the leaders requested Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat to ensure that this project is handled on priority basis as a proper plan needs to be worked out for implementation. Bittu informed that Shekhawat has assured full cooperation and has offered maximum funds for this project. He informed that the Union Minister assured that a team of senior officials from the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti would visit the Budha Nullah shortly, while he would himself visit the city once the current Parliament session is over. Bittu also stated that the Union Minister has fixed a meeting in this regard in the first week of July at New Delhi, where all stakeholders would hold discussions over this matter. Meanwhile, Ashu has also appealed to the city residents, industrialists, NGOs, social organisations to come forward for turning Budha Nullah into Budha Dariya once again.
