Chandigarh : Punjab Water Resources Minister Mr. Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria today visited Sutlej, Beas rivers and several drains in Amritsar, Ferozepur, Moga, Faridkot, Sri Muktsar Sahib and Bathinda districts to assess the situation arised due to torrential rain in the state.

Taking stock of the situation, the Minister instructed the authorities concerned to make all necessary arrangements to tackle the flood like situations and also to ensure the safety of life and properties of the people.

Mr Sarkaria visited the Mauzgarh Drain, Zira Drain, Mudki Drain, Pucca Drain, Langiana Drain, Burra Gujjar Drain, Bhullar Drain and Chandhbhan Drain, besides Harike Headworks in Tarn Taran District.

The Minister also visited at village Udekaran in Muktsar, where almost 200 people have been shifted to safer places and the deluge has affected crops standing on nearly 25000 acres land in the district.

Interacting with the effected people, the Minister said that Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh led Punjab Government is on action mode to tackle the situation and relief works is being done on the mission mode. To tackle the situation, the Muktsar district administration has appointed a nodal officer too keep a check on 10 villages, he added.

Assuring all possible help, Mr Sarkaria said that the government has already commenced the relief works in affected areas and a special Girdawari is being conducted to assess crop damage due to heavy rains.

He was accompanied by Chief Engineer Canal Mr Jagmohan Singh Mann, Chief Engineer Drainage Mr. Sanjeev Kumar Gupta, concerned SEs and other staff of Water Resources Department.
