Nawanshahr : Senior Congress leader and Anandpur Sahib MP Manish Tewari today alleged that the BJP-led NDA government appeared to be planning to turn the country into a “police state”.
Interacting with reporters on the sidelines of a public function in Jadla near here today, Tewari said the NDA government had completely undermined the RTI Act with obvious intention to hinder transparency in the functioning of the government.
“The way the government has hastened to get the legislation amending the RTI Act passed, revealed its ill-intentions,” he alleged, adding that it was a recessive step that would take the country backwards in terms of enforcing transparency and accountability of governments in power.
He said similarly, the NIA amendment Bill would lead to abuse of power and return of draconian laws that would turn the country into a “police state”.
