CHANDIGARH, January 24: Senior Congress leader and former District Congress Committee Ludhiana (Urban) president Jagmohan Sharma today retired from the contest in favour of the party candidate Gurmail Singh Pahalwan at the behest of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Capt Amarinder Singh.

PCC chief Capt Amarinder Singh today claimed that the Congress would get at least 70 seats. He also claimed Dera Sacha Sauda would be supporting the Congress in the coming assembly elections. He said, "The dera and its followers are going to side with us and not the Shiromani Akali Dal," he said.

Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Capt Amarinder Singh today asked the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to explain whether his Shiromani Akali Dal was a secular or a religious party and whether it is not a fact that the party has two constitutions, one for the Election Commission of India and the other for Sikh Gurdwara Election Commission and whether it did not establish his characteristic double standards in politics.
