Punjab Pardesh Congress Committee president Capt Amarinder Singh on Thursday said that the Akalis had destroyed an entire generation of Punjabis with drugs. He also said that they had distributed police stations among their legislators and jathedars who are earning money from there, as a result of which the law and order situation has become critical.

Condemning the murder of young Congress leader Ricky Dulat in Sangrur on Sunday night and the attack on Congress office in Batala, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Capt Amarinder Singh on Tuesday urged Union Home Minister P Chidambaram to depute a special team in Punjab. “It is not that the Congress workers can’t hit back. In fact, they can hit back hard, but we don’t want them to take law into their hands lest it leads to a civil war like situation”, Capt Singh said in his letter, while seeking urgent attention of the Home Minister requesting him to ensure that Congress workers are not provoked beyond their patience. Captain revealed that during the last few weeks, several attacks have been reported against Congress workers that led to the death of three of them while several others got injured.
