Condemning “widespread booth capturing” in all municipal wards across Patiala, PCC president Capt Amarinder Singh said: “it is the murder of democracy by the ruling alliance”. He said the elections were a complete “farce”. “When they (Akalis) had already decided to capture booths and not allow anyone cast his vote, what was the purpose of holding the elections? he said and accused Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal of “exhausting all his energies in Patiala and using unfair means in the elections”.

With the SAD-BJP alliance winning 39 seats in the Patiala Municipal Corporation (MC) elections, the present House has regained its supremacy for the second consecutive time. The Congress managed to win just eight seats whereas two Independent candidates emerged victorious. Result from Ward No. 1 has been withheld following complaints of rigging. Though the Congress claimed that the results did not matter as Akalis resorted to unfair means, SAD-BJP leaders stated that their victory showed that people’s mandate was with them.

Minor incidents of violence marred the byelections for the Mullanpur Dakha Nagar Panchayat. Congress leader Jassi Khangura alleged that supporters of the ruling alliance damaged the vehicles of of his personal assistant Ranjit Singh Mangat and Congress MLA from Raikot Gurcharan Singh Bopari following a minor argument.

No increase in MBBS seats in 37 years
