Chandigarh:Broadening the ambit of the time-bound public delivery system introduced in November last year, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has approved to bring three more services of water supply and sewerage under the ambit of the Right to Service (RTS) Act, which entails delivery of specified services within a stipulated timeframe.

A day after the much-awaited meeting of Punjab Council of Ministers was deferred to take this decision, the Punjab Congress on Sunday strongly opposed the Akali-BJP government’s proposal to enhance the retirement age of its employees from 58 to 60 years saying it will only add to the serious unemployment problem in the state.

CHANDIGARH/LUDHIANA: The Punjab Congress on Sunday reiterated its demand for central assistance to drought-hit farmers of the state, adding that the relief money be handed over directly to farmers and not to the SAD-BJP government. In a letter to the PM, the Congress MPs from Punjab stated that the poor monsoon had made farmers spend extra on diesel pumps to irrigate their paddy fields.

Software to map cancer cases in state

A chemical engineer and software developer from Ludhiana claims to have prepared a software that would be able to map cancer cases in the state. Jaskeerat Singh demonstrated the software, Cancer Mapper, at a seminar on “Environmental Toxicity Post-Green Revolution” held at Adesh University in collaboration with an NGO, Kheti Virasat Mission. The software makes use of GPS (global positioning system) technology.
