Joginder Sanger named Asian of the Year 2011

Joginder Sanger, a leading NRI hotelier, has been named the Asian of the Year 2011 at the 24th Edition of "Asian Who's Who International" here.

Receiving the honour here in central London last night, Sanger, who is also the chairman of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan here, acknowledged the support he received from his family in building up his entire business and underlined how the country of Britain provided adequate opportunities to everyone to come up in life.

"There is no country better than UK in that respect," he said

Sanger came to UK from Jalandhar 50 years back and started his own travel agency in 1965 and subsequently began operating chartered flights to India.

He represented various international airlines between 1965 and 2000 to cater to migrant community to and from India.

Previous recipients of the honour included Lord Swaraj Paul (1987-88), Keith Vaz (1988-89), Lord Bhikhu Parekh (1991-92), Imran Khan (1992-93), Lord G K Noon (1993-94), Baroness Shreela Flather (1995-96), Lord Raj Loomba (1996-97), Lord Navnit Dholakia (2000-2001), G S Gujral (2001-2002), Lord Karan Bilimoria (2002-2003), Dr Kartar Lalvani (2003-2004), Lord Hameed (2007-2008) and Ranjit Singh Baxi (2008-2009).

Rajesh Agrawal, founder of Europe's leading online foreign exchange and international payments company RationalFX, won the Asian leadership award as Young Entrepreneur whereas CEO of Sterling Media Natasha Mudhar was chosen for Asian leadership International Media award.

Other recipients of awards included Ashook K Ramsaran, Jagdeep Rai, Dr Pushpinder Chowdry and Dr Diwan Rahul Nanda.

Speaking no the occasion, Jasbir Singh Sachar, Founder of Asian Who's Who International said: "It is with great honour and pride that we are celebrating the unparallelled accomplishments of the Asian community, I am so proud to be part of it."

Washington : The Indian-American community in the US has urged the Trump administration to “fully support” India’s decision to revoke the constitutional provision that accorded special status to Jammu and Kashmir and to continue to exert pressure on Pakistan to end its support to cross-border terrorism.
