Action on NRI complaints within 14 days, says IGP

PATIALA: Inspector General of Police (NRI Affairs),Punjab, Gurpreet Kaur Deo on Tuesday directed police officers to ensure that the complaints of non-resident Indians are disposed of within 14 days. She was speaking at a meeting of the Patiala range police officers which was attended among others by Patiala range Deputy Inspector General of Police LK Yadav and Senior Superintendent of Police Gurpreet Singh Gill.

The IG said that on an average the NRI wing gets about 4,000 complaints annually and in most cases these pertained to property disputes. Most of the complainants were from the United States, England and Canada. She said that the NRI Cell had been constituted to redress the grievances of about nine crore Punjabis settled abroad.

24-yr-old liquor trader found dead Muktsar: A 24-year-old Sukhjinder Singh alias Sunny, son of a local liquor trader, was found dead with two bullets recovered from his head and neck, near a private resort on Kotkapura-Bathinda bypass road on Monday late night. The murder was reportedly committed in his Bolero jeep when he was returning to his house, after collecting the daily cash from his liquor vends at Jhabelwali and other nearby villages. “A case under Section 302 of the IPC has been registered against some unidentified persons in this regard, following a complaint lodged by the deceased’s father Bhagwan Singh. The body has also been handed over to the bereaved kin of the deceased after conducting the postmortem,” informed police.

Burning of stubble banned Sangrur: The burning of paddy stubble has been banned in Sangrur district according to an order issued here on Tuesday by Additional Deputy Commissioner Indu Malhotra. The order, issued under Section 144 of the CrPC, also banned the harvesting with combines between 7pm and 10am. In order to maintain the quality of rice the combine operators have been directed to ensure adequate repairs of old machines from officials of agriculture department.

Washington : The Indian-American community in the US has urged the Trump administration to “fully support” India’s decision to revoke the constitutional provision that accorded special status to Jammu and Kashmir and to continue to exert pressure on Pakistan to end its support to cross-border terrorism.
