LUDHIANA: The mayor of Hounslow, UK, Pritam Singh Grewal, said that technology from the UK could be transferred to the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation in case a request was made.
A native of Ludhiana, Grewal was elected Hounslow mayor in May this year. He was on a visit to the city during which he held discussions with Ludhiana mayor Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria.
In the meeting, Grewal said that the infrastructure in England was far better due to the strict policies of the government. “Only one contractor is given the contract for construction of roads, bridges and footpaths. The construction is complete in five years and the contractor maintains it for the next 20 years,” said Grewal.
He said if roads, bridge or footpaths develop fault during these 20 years and are not repaired, a penalty is imposed on t he contractor.
Discussions were also held to make Ludhiana a world-class city on the pattern of London and Canada. Ludhiana mayor Gohalwaria said that he would not visit any country in his official capcity, until he was sure that the visit would yield something concrete for Ludhiana residents.
