US Sikhs rejoice Obama’s win

AMRITSAR: The recognizable Sikh community in US was overwhelmed over land-slide victory of US President Barack Obama for second time in office today. American Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (AGPC) sent the congratulatory messages to US President and said he is the `one who understands concerns of the Sikhs and minorities in US’. ``We are extremely happy over Obama’s win. He is friend of the Sikhs’’, said AGPC President JS Hothi and Coordinator Dr.Pritpal Singh in a joint statement issued here today.
The US leaders said Barak Obama is always receptive to Sikhs’ demands and understand their concerns.
"When the unfortunate incident of shootout at Oak Creek Gurdwara in Wisconsin happened two months back, Obama rose above politics and felt concerned, taking appreciable steps to garner sense of safety and security amongst community members’’, said Dr.Pritpal Singh. He further said that the US President even appreciated the how Sikhs have a major role to play in the history of US.
"Obama had been dealing with the Sikh issues closely and helping to generate awareness about the Sikhs identity’’, they said. The AGPC office bearers said ``Obama not only condemned the incident, he ensured security to Sikhs, recognizing their role in development and progress of USA. The US leaders said he had been receptive to the demands of the minorities in America and they were not surprised over his win. "Obama is not just a person but an institution of democratic and progressive ideas. Under his leadership the US is safe and will progress leaps and bounds’’, said Hothi.
They added that whenever they took up the issues concerning Sikhs regarding their 'mistaken identity’, turban issue or religious freedom, which they enjoy a lot in US, they had found Obama administration highly receptive to their demands. ``We welcome his return as President for another term. US will prosper under his able leadership’’, said Dr.Pritpal Singh.
