Bathinda : Following the guidelines issued by Punjab Home Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal to provide better assistance to the non-resident Indians (NRIs), Bathinda Inspector General of Police Nirmal Singh Dhillon on Tuesday held a special Police Darbar and heard about 400 complainants from all seven districts of his police zone.

After giving patient hearing to all at a banquet hall, near Multipurpose Sports Stadium, here, the IG Bathinda informed media that most of the complaints were marked to the officers concerned to satisfy the complainant without any delay.

Maximum numbers of complaints were from Moga and Ferozepur districts as high numbers of NRIs comprised from the two districts only, said the IG, adding that mostly cases were related to fraud by near and dear ones of NRIs in property or cash. Also, there were a noticeable number of cases pertaining to girls duped by NRIs after marriage.

SSPs, SPs, DSPs and SHOs from all the seven districts, namely Bathinda, Mansa, Muktsar, Fazilka, Ferozepur, Moga and Faridkot, were here in Police Darbar and were busy in satisfying each and every complainant from their district.

While replying to media queries, Dhillon said the reason behind the NRIs’ grievances hearing was to ensure that NRIs get complete justice because earlier there were complaints that NRIs did not get any platform to raise their voice and through this we want to satisfy NRIs.

“A special review committee has been formed under the supervision of SP (D) at each district headquarter under the zone to review the NRI Public Offenders (PO). After the review if any NRI PO is found, legal action will be taken against him and his property here will also be attached,” informed the IG.

He also said that SP (H) had been appointed as the nodal officer of the NRI Grievances Cell at each district. He also announced to launch the special complaint registration helpline number for NRIs.

Cops in a tizzy
The cops were much vocal throughout the day but when Jasbir Kaur, mother of the Parminder Kaur, who is victim of dowry in Australia alleged police for working under money pressure, their mouths were sealed.

Her question: “As I do not have money to fill the pockets of cops in such case where should I go for justice” also made the top cop of the zone to downcast his eyes.
