Ludhiana : Three persons, including a restaurant owner, have been booked on charges of ‘murderous attack’ on an NRI and SSP rank Punjab police officer, who sustained injuries after he was beaten up by the restaurant owner and his men on Monday night.

The police said PPS officer SS Mand along with three of his friends and their families had gone to restaurant to attend a party where during the scuffle Mand, currently posted as Assistant Inspector General (AIG), Counter Intelligence, Ludhiana, sustained fractures on his leg and injuries on face and had undergone a surgery.

Acting on the complaint lodged by Mand’s NRI friend Paramjit Singh, who too sustained minor injuries, the police on Tuesday evening lodged an “attempt to murder” case against five persons, including Sunny Johar, who was expelled from Akali Dal in May this year for anti-party activities .

Addressing a press meet, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Intelligence, Hardeep Singh Dhillon, who took stock of situation said that a scuffle broke out between the officer and Sunny. “The trouble began when Paramjit’s shoulder accidentally hit Sunny on his way to the washroom. Later, when Paramjit was being beaten by Sunny, Mand intervened but was mercilessly thrashed by Sunny, his associates, including bouncers, fracturing his right leg”, the ADGP told reporters. Dhillon said in the FIR Paramjit alleged that Sunny also snatched his revolver and mobile phone during the melee. The police have booked three persons, including Sunny Johar, co-owner of the HUB, his nephew Aman Inder Pal Singh and Rishi Banda under Sections 307, 395, 148 and 149 of IPC and 25, 27 of Arms Act at police station division 8.

The ADGP said “no one would be spared and law will take its own course” asserting that the case investigations were being monitored by DGP and Deputy Chief Minister who have instructed not to show any leniency to accused.
