Chandigarh : The Punjab Congress today demanded the dismissal of Revenue Minister Bikram Majithia following allegations by an NRI, Hardial Singh Hundal, claiming that Majithia had helped former Akali leader Sunny Johar to grab land on which the controversial bar, The Hub, now stood.

In a statement, senior leader Sukhpal Singh Khaira demanded a judicial probe or a CBI inquiry to reveal the truth, claiming that people had lost faith in the Punjab Police.

He claimed there was not an iota of doubt that Sunny Johar, the main accused in Ludhiana assault case, had been shielded and promoted by Majithia. The Congress leader claimed the Ludhiana administration had acted at Majithia's behest to favour Sunny Johar.

“Not only did the Ludhiana Senior Suoperintendent of Police not act on the complaint of Ranjana Sohi ( the NRI's sister) in the matter, but the police also fabricated a false case against Sohi. The then Deputy Commissioner also failed to render justice while looking into the title of the property,” Khaira said.

He said it seemed that Majithia was a‘benami’ share-holder with Sunny Johar in the land grab.

He claimed the so-called Sunny Johar's expulsion from the Youth Akali Dal was merely an eyewash as the accused “was seen in the company of the minister at the house of Mahesh Inder Grewal in Ludhiana on December 24.”
