Canada’s Consul General inaugurates library

Faridkot : Consul General of Canada Scott Slessor inaugurated the Dr Mohindar Brar Sambhi Memorial Library at Dr Mohindar Brar Sambhi Government Girls Secondary School in Faridkot on Monday. NRI Dr Mohinder Partap Sambhi had set up a library in memory of his wife who had studied in this school and went on to become one of the world’s most respected child psychiatrist.

Scott Slessor stated, “A library is the heart of a school and you have now got a well-designed and modern library which you can utilise to further your dreams.” He exhorted the students to study hard and become the leaders of tomorrow, just like Dr Mohindar Brar Sambhi had become.

CEO Element Company Mac Sarin, who designed this library, stated that Dr Mohinder Brar had specialised in the care of developmentally disabled children in the greater Los Angeles area, where she had settled in the USA. “She was known as a person full of love and compassion for all and was greatly admired and respected by everyone she came in contact with,” he said.

Sarin said that around Rs 46 lakh had been donated by Dr Brar’s husband Dr. Mohinder Partap Sambhi and he had also committed Rs 2 lakh for its maintenance and upkeep. Earlier, he had established a Chair of Indian Classical Music named after her at University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) . In India, there is an ongoing programme of free blood transfusion for thalassaemic children at the Blood Bank Society of Chandigarh in her name.
