An Italy-based NRI woman was allegedly battered to death by her in-laws in Nandeyian village under the Fatehgarh Churian police station on Tuesday night after she refused to share her husband's income with them.

Batala SSP Tulsi Ram said that on Wednesday, the victim's father, Savrain Singh, lodged a complaint with the police, alleging that his daughter Kuldeep Kaur's in-laws had murdered her after she refused to part with the money sent home by her husband Tegbir Singh from Italy.

Kuldeep and Tegbir had got married three-and-a-half years ago. After the marriage, Kuldeep migrated to Italy with her husband, but she had been staying with her in-laws for the past six months.

Before marriage, Tegbir used to send money to his brother's wife Paramjeet Kaur, a widow. But ever since his wife was in India, he had been sending money to her, which became a source of constant discord between Kuldeep and her in-laws, said Savrain.

He said that a few days ago, Kuldeep's father-in-law Ranjeet Singh, sister-in-law Paramjeet Kaur and Paramjeet's son Taranpreet Singh asked her for money, but she refused, saying she did not have any.

At around 10.30 pm on Tuesday night, one of Kuldeep's neighbours called up Savrain and told him that Kuldeep was lying unconscious in the house after a fight with her in-laws.

Savrain said he and his family rushed to the house and were shocked to find Kuldeep lying dead in a pool of blood. There were deep injury marks on her entire body.

A case under sections 302 and 34 of the IPC has been registered against Paramjeet, Taranpreet and Ranjeet, who are absconding.
