JALANDHAR: Tall claims made and boasted by the state Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal and minister of NRI affairs Bikram Singh Majithia for providing all kind of help and police assistance in case of any dispute and inquiry to be done by an officer not below the rank of DSP proved farce when an NRI was pushed behind the bars at Lambra Police Station for demanding contract money for the agricultural land from the tenant tiller.
NRI Gurdial Sigh was released only when the IG Jalandhar Zone II Gurpreet Deo who is also the in- harge of NRI wing of the Punjab Police intervened after newly elected NRI Sabha president Jasbir Singh Gill approaches her.
Gurdial Singh had leased five acres of agricultural land to Kuljit Singh in Chamiara village of this district on yearly contract basis. Lease money in lakhs became due against him for the last five years.
When the amount due against was demanded, he indulged in heating arguments following which the village Sarpanch intervened and a compromise was reached that Kuljit Singh would clear the amount with in a couple of days. But instead of honouring the commitment, Kuljit influenced upon the Sarpanch and became friendly to teach a lesson to him, claimed Gurdial Singh. Kuljit Singh filed a complaint with the Lambra police station against the NRI alleging harassment. The police without going into the veracity of the facts of the complaint picked up the NRI and pushed behind the bars of the police station.
Receiving information, NRI Sabha president Jasbir Singh Gill accompanied by a senior leader of the SAD Gurmit Singh Aulakh reached the police station. The SHO refused to talk to them even. Gill alleged that the SHO treatedthem rudely and even threatened Gurdial Singh that he would be implicated in such a case that he would never be able to go abroad.
Gill said that a complaint would be submitted to the SSP rural against the conduct of the SHO of Lambra Police station.
