Canadian national held with 26 kg heroin worth Rs 130 cr

FATEHGARH SAHIB: The District Police today busted a drug peddling nexus between Indian and Western countries' drug traffickers by nabbing its main kingpin along with an ally by recovering 26 kilogram heroin worth Rs. 130 crore in the international market.

Revealing this in a press conference, Hardyal Singh Maan, Senior Superintendent of Police said that on a tip-off, the district police got a massive success to its anti narcotics campaign.

He said that the accused have been identified as Anoop Singh Kahlon of village Jandu Singha falling under Maqsudan Police Station of Jalandhar district and Kulwinder Singh alias Rocky of Nawan Sahar Badala falling under Kharar Police Station of Mohali district.

The SSP said that Anoop Singh was the main kingpin and they were used to smuggle the drugs to the various countries of Europe and North America.

Maan said that a special team had been formed under Gurpreet Singh, SP Detective including Inspector Davinder Singh Attari. He said that on March 3, a special Naka was laid at Fatehgarh, where the police nabbed Anoop Singh and recovered 540 gram heroin from his possession, two driving licenses and an Innova car besides a cash of Rs. 8.94 lakh from a suitcase in his possession, Rs. 800 of Indian Currency, 9045 Canadian, 4 American Dollars and 5 Pound.

He said that the total amount which had been recovered from the possession of Anoop Singh was approximately Rs. 13.86 lakh. He said that Anoop Singh had had two licenses, which were made from Chandigarh and Moga.

The SSP said that Kulwinder Singh alias Rocky was driving the car and police team also recovered 4 illegal cartridges of .32 bore pistol from his pocket along with a gunny bag full of shells of capsules. He said that they were used to supply the drugs by filling it in the shells of capsules.

Mann said that during preliminary investigation it has come to fore that Anoop Singh Kahlon has been residing in Canada along with his family since 1995. He said that Kahlon was a truck driver in Canada and he had made a strong network of drug peddling not only in USA and Canada but to European countries too after coming under the influence of Drug Mafia.

The SSP said that Kahlon had also created a drug smuggling network in India as he had often come to India. He said that Rocky helps him to expand his network here.

The SSP said that Rocky was looking after the flat of Anoop Singh at Zirakpur in Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar (Mohali) from where the police recovered a 16 kilogram of heroin and 10 kilogram heroin from the Accent car of Rocky parked outside the flat. He said that a total 26 kilogram heroin was recovered and the further investigations were on.

A case under section 21/61/85 NDPS Act and 420,467,468, 471 of IPC along with 25/54/59 of Arms Act has been registered at Police Station Fatehgarh Sahib.
