JALANDHAR: North American Punjabi Association has asked the Punjab Government to clear the legal status of the NRI Sabha Punjab with regard to its legal and constitutional powers.
In a press release issued from SS Chahal, spokesperson of the association said that the Overseas Punjabi Community was in a fix over the status of the Sabha. They are eager to know that whether the Sabha is an NGO or the Government body as it enjoys no powers legal or constitutional to function.
He said that when the Sabha had no legal or constitutional powers then how it would be possible for the Sabha to interfere in the system to solve the issues, concerns and problems of the Overseas Punjabi Community.
Chahal appreciated the move of the Sabha for joining hands with the Dubai based Punjabi hotelier and philanthropist SPS Oberai for setting up a special help desk at Dubai to get work permits and visas duly verified before joining job there to ensure security of the Punjab youths.
He also urged the state government to set up a state run Overseas Employment Corporation on the lines of the Maharashtra Government to explore employment opportunities in abroad.
