CHANDIGARH: Congress leader Sukhpal Singh Khaira lashing out at Akali Dal said proposed ‘Chintan-Shivir’ of a Panthic party like SAD at Goa, is not only mockery of its ideology but also comes at a time, when Punjab is passing through critical financial crisis.
“Needless to mention, Punjab is facing a colossal debt of over Rs. 80,000 crores, it is unable to pay salaries to its employees, unable to honour its social welfare schemes such as old age pension and Shagun scheme. Farmers are committing suicides and the agrarian economy is in doldrums. The govt. has failed to implement its manifesto promise of giving Rs. 1000 unemployment allowance to lacs of frustrated unemployed youths, students of class 10-12 are awaiting then promised laptops. The government had nothing to offer in the budget presented recently other than fudging figures to present a rosy picture.”
The former Congress MLA said the claims of good governance were also complete lies as there is total chaos in Punjab on the law and order front, with policemen in uniform being killed daily by Akali goons and spate of rapes in the state.
“The junior Badal and President SAD has miserably failed both as Home Minister as well as Sports Minister.”
“The selection of a tourist destination like Goa known for its beaches and Casino’s is diametrically anti Akali and Panthic ideology and definitely not a place for serious deliberations. It is now abundantly clear, that places like Goa are more important than religious centres like Anandpur Sahib for Akali politics. ‘Tantrik–Vidya’ and ‘Hawans’ have replaced Sikh ideology, when it comes to seeking blessings of the almighty for the Badal family, as is indicative of huge expensive stones on the index fingers of both the senior and junior Badal. All traditional leaders like Kuldeep S Wadala, Ranjit S Brahmpura, Sukhdev S Dhindsa have been pushed to the brink, while non Panthic faces like Hans Raj Hans, N.K. Sharma, Deep Malhotra, Joginderpal Jain are now the Panthic mascots. None in the Akali hierarchy had the time to pay respects to a senior leader like Capt. Kamaljit Singh on his fourth ‘Barsi’.”
Khaira opined that Sukhbir Badal has not only thrown to the winds all Panthic traditions, by proposing to hold the ‘Chintan Shivar’ at Goa but is totally insensitive to the issues of the people and the declining graph of Punjab on all fronts.
