NRIS laud Punjab govt for quota in housing policy

WASHINGTON: Indian-American community has welcomed Punjab government’s initiative to allot 10 per cent quota in housing and plots for NRIs in state.

Satnam Singh Chahal of North American Punjabi Association lauded Punjab government for the decision.

His statement came after Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal announced that state “government has evolved a comprehensive plan to make NRIs equal partners in the industrial progress of the state and a 10 per cent quota of projects and plots is being reserved for Punjabi diaspora."

He, however, complained that the state government has not been helpful in delivering justice to NRIs and their families in property disputes.

“The overseas Punjabi community is concerned for its security of lives and property in state and government should create safe and secure atmosphere for NRIs to attract investment in Punjab,”
