Punjab to launch interactive website for NRIs

CHANDIGARH: Punjab is all set to become first state in the country to setup a mechanism in the form of an interactive website to redress the grievances and various other issues pertaining to large Punjabi Diaspora settled in every nook and corner of the world.

The interactive website will be launched by end of next month, said Bikram Singh Majithia, NRI Affairs Minister Punjab.

Presiding over a high level meeting of NRIs Department, Majithia directed the department to launch an interactive website as per the decision taken during Non Resident Punjabis Sammelan held in January this year. The Minister pointed out that keeping in view the fast pace of life and busy schedule of NRIs it becomes imperative for us to redress their issues online.

He said that to cover the majority of issues of concerning various departments, we need to design a comprehensive website so that NRIs could register their grievances and issues on the website for their redresses. He said that this website should also be used to get the feedback of NRIs along with their opinions on various development initiatives, achievements and other issues related to the state government.

The NRIs affairs minister also underlined the need to ensure instant response to the issues of Punjabi Diaspora from the concerned department and emphasized the need of website with other social networks including the provision of live chat service.

He said that the website should also depict the glorious heritage and culture of Punjab along with contribution of Punjabis in nation’s freedom struggle.

He said that a complete NRI Database should also be made available on the website and asked for detailed information of tourism opportunities and centers in Punjab for the facilitation of NRIs.

He also directed to setup an effective complaint registration system on the website besides detailed information regarding services brought under the purview of Right to Service Act in the state.

The Minister also suggested to setup live webinar on the website to provide an opportunity to the NRIs to directly interaction with the Minister Incharge or the senior officers of the NRIs Affairs Department on certain fixed timings.

Prominent amongst those were present in the meeting included Principal Secretary NRI Affairs S.S. Channi and MD Warehousing Arvinder Singh Bains.
