3 NRIs win Mini Punjab polls in Canada

BATHINDA: Three Punjabi NRIs have won the elections to the British Columbia legislative assembly in Canada. Apart from two sitting members of New Democratic Party (NDP) winning the election, a candidate from the ruling British Columbia Liberals Party (BC Liberals) has also won -- taking the tally of winning Punjabis to three.
Harry Bains and Raj Chouhan of NDP retained the seats of Surrey Newton and Burnaby Edmonds respectively. Amrik Virk, an inspector in Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), won on Liberals ticket from Surrey Tynehead constituency. While Bains defeated another Punjabi, Sukhminder Virk, of the ruling Liberals party to keep the seat, Virk defeated a fellow Punjabi Avtar Bains of NDP.
