OTTAWA/CHANDIGARH: District Congress Committee, Ludhiana (Urban) Pawan Dewan has the Punjab Government must resolve the pending issues of NRIs, so that NRIs community should play more vital role in development of the state.
Dewan made this statement here today during his Canada visit. He toured the parliamentary constituency of Canadian MP Param Singh Gill during this tour. He also saw the ongoing functioning there. Among others, Amarpreet Singh Aulakh and Jarnail Grewal were present on the occasion.
On the occasion, MP Gill on behalf of the Canadian Government gave a special honour to Dewan.
Dewan further said that NRI community wanted to invest in Punjab but it was not finding a suitable atmosphere. He asserted that the Punjab government should take all possible measures to settle problems of the NRI community, so that this community could become a partner in the development of the state.
Dewan said he was very much impressed after seeing the working of the Canadian Parliament where the Opposition did not create hindrance in the working of the Parliament, and perform its duties in a better manner after coordinating in a peaceful manner with the government. He further said there was no place for corruption in the Canadian System. He said every Canadian citizen was aware of performing his duties in a responsible manner.
A deputation of the NRIs also met Dewan, which demanded restoration of direct flights between Delhi and Canada. Dewan said he would speak to Ludhiana MP and the Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting (IC) Manish Tewari to take up this matter with the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
