Jalandhar : Giving an advice to Punjabi girls who want to land in foreign shores by marrying an NRI groom, Scot Slessor, the Consul General of Canada, said on Sunday that should always inquire about the marital status of the NRI groom from the Canadian consulate office in Punjab.
“An applicant justs need to give an application to the concerned consulate office of Canada and officials, after inquiring about the marital status and citizenship status of NRI groom settled in Canada, can provide the same to the applicant,” Slessor said, adding that it would save the girls from being duped by already married NRI boys, who fraudulently solemnize second marriage in India. Slessor was here at NRI Bhawan and was welcomed by NRI Sabha president Jasvir Singh Gill on Sunday.
He also raised concern about the properties of NRIs grabbed by land mafia. “To vacate their (NRI) properties grabbed by land mafia, NRIs have been fighting a long battle. They should consult NRI Sabha for some legal help,” he said. He was also concerned about the youths falling prey to unscrupulous agents who dupe them on unreasonable grounds. “Before applying for any kind of visa, foreign aspirants should get details about the conditions of visa application, by visiting a Canadian immigration website. This practice will prevent innocents from getting into the trap of fake travel agents,” he said.
“The NRI Sabha is here to take care of the interest and well-being of NRIs from Punjab as well as abroad, since they keep a deep connection with their motherland. This is how we see NRI Sabha’s relations with NRIs living in Canada too. Hence we share some of our concerns with you,” said NRI Sabha president Jasvir Gill, while apprising the Consulate about the new industrial policy of Punjab, that offers ample incentives to NRIs.
