NRI Sikh businessman Singapore envoy to Lanka

SINGAPORE: Singapore has appointed a Sikh businessman as its non-resident High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, the foreign ministry announced here on Thursday.
Karan Singh Thakral is the executive director of Thakral Group of Companies.
Thakral is also the chairman of the South Asia Business Group, the Business India in Singapore and Givo Limited in India, a company listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange and the National Stock Exchange of India.
He is a board member of the ASEAN India Business Council and a member of the Advisory Board (Singapore) of Global Schools Foundation (Worldwide).
Thakral is also the chairman emeritus of The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE), Singapore, and member emeritus of TiE’s global board of trustees.
Thakral is a trustee of the Justice Onkar Singh Free Legal Aid Service Trust and patron of the World Punjabi Organisation (WPO).
He is also involved in a non-profit organisation, One Laptop Per Child, in India. He is a member of the Indian Angel Network, which is involved in promoting entrepreneurship.
