Three more NRI Police Stations to come up

Amritsar : The Punjab government has launched various schemes to facilitate Non-Resident Indians (NRI) who hail from Punjab, under these initiatives special NRI Police Station are being setup exclusively for NRI (Punjabis) to redress their complaints in a time-bound manner.
Punjab NRI Affairs Minister Bikram Singh Majithia said that earlier in 2008, six police stations were setup by the SAD-BJP government for the NRI’s at Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Ludhiana, Moga, Nawashahr and Kapurthala and now keeping in view the demand of NRI (punjabis), three more NRI Police Stations are being set up at Jalandhar (Rural), Ludhiana (Rural) and Amritsar.
The minister stated that the Punjab government has solved many cases related to marriage issues of NRI’s with the help of the community affairs division in collaboration with the women commission. Majithia said that 296 complaints have been redressed till June this year by the Punjab NRI Cell. He said that according to the directions of the Punjab government, FIR would not be registered against any NRI without investigation by the deputy superintendent of police.
The Punjab government has deputed IG rank officer directly to look into the complaints of the NRI’s. He added that if any NRI is not satisfied with the investigation at the lower-level then they could directly approach the IGP community division at the police headquarters.
IGP NRI Affairs Gurpreet Kaur Deo briefing about the initiatives of the state government for NRI (Punjabis) said that the new page is specifically designed to redress NRI complaints on Punjab Police website at www.punjabpolice.gov.in .

She said that the state government has also launched a helpline number for NRI’s ie 0172-2748100 (ext: 22136).
