NEW DELHI/ CANADA: Two people were arrested in the national capital and five Indian passports with fake Canadian visas were recovered from their possession, police said.

Balwinder, 37, and Sanjay Bhola, 39, were arrested near Netaji Subhash Place at Pitampura in northwest Delhi. Five passports stamped with fake Canadian visas and one fake Canadian visa sticker were recovered from their possession, an official said.

According to Additional Commissioner of Police Ravinder Yadav, the accused conspired to send people from Gujarat and Punjab to Canada by providing them fake visas.

The men were in contact with Cheema, a resident of Jalandhar, Punjab, who sent 12 people to their office at Rani Bagh in northwest Delhi. Police said the men charged at least Rs.8 lakh for each visa, and collected also an advance amount.

They stamped fake visa stickers on the passports, and demanded that the remaining amount be paid on the date of departure to Canada.

"With the same modus-operandi they cheated some of the people of Gujarat with the help of two people named Mehra and Ranganathan," Yadav said, adding that police have launched a hunt to nab three others suspected to be involved in the racket.
