Deepchand Gidwani, a 39-year-old jewellery businessman based in Alaska, is miffed with the management and staff of Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Andheri.
He lost his expensive phone while he was in the ICU and the hospital has turned a deaf ear to his complaint.
On July 21, Gidwani was admitted to the hospital for abdominal infection. On July 23, Gidwani was shifted from his private room to the fifth floor ICU for a medical procedure. “I had kept my wallet, ipad and phone on the side table. The procedure took place around 11pm and 15 minutes later I fell asleep. When I woke up at 8am, my phone was missing,” he said.
The phone was a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 worth Rs42,000 which he had purchased a week ago.
“The hospital of such a stature is supposed to have stringent safety measures, especially inside the ICU which is a restricted area. I suspect the involvement of the staff members,” Gidwani said.
He said the hospital authorities have made no effort to question its staff. “It is highly unacceptable and appalling. The management and security personnel in the hospital have been unconcerned and have not apologised or promised action,” he added.
On Saturday after the hospital failed to take any action, Gidwani filed a complaint with the Versova police station. “We have got the complaint. We will investigate into it,” said Vishal Jadhav, a police officer. Gidwani is still undergoing a 14-day treatment at the hospital. Despite repeated attempts, hospital authorities were unavailable for comment.
