Moga : Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Friday lashed out at the Congress-led UPA government, accusing it of failing to protect the lives of Punjabi NRIs residing in Philippines.

Speaking to mediapersons after administering oath of office to 344 sarpanches and 2,457 panches of Moga district, Sukbir said it was unfortunate that every third day, a Punjabi was being murdered in Manila and the Union government had failed to seriously address the issue.

He said it was matter of regret that with Minister of State for External Affairs being a Punjabi, Punjabis were not safe in any country.

He added that state Congress chief Partap Singh Bajwa was “in a really pitiable condition with neither the Congress high command nor the Punjab Congress owning him”.

To the query on Bajwa mocking the SAD-BJP government for offering IAS officer Durga Shakti Nagpal to serve in Punjab, Sukhbir said the Congress had lost its moral right to make an issue of sand mining.

He said the mining lobby had direct patronage of Congress politicians all over the country and Bajwa should stage a dharna before the Environment Ministry to get all pending clearances passed to ease the situation in the state.

Prominent amongst those present included Rural Development and Panchayats Minister Surjit Singh Rakhra, MLA from Dharamkot Tota Singh, MLA from Nihal Singh Wala Rajwinder Kaur, Bagha Purana MLA Mahesh Inder Singh, Moga MLA Joginder Pal Jain and Faridkot MP Bibi Paramjit Kaur Gulshan.

He has been appointed national vice-president of the Youth Akali Dal
