London : An 80-year-old Sikh, who was punched in the face and shoved to the ground by a teenaged girl in Coventry on August 10, has died, the police said today. Joginder Singh from Canley was hospitalised following the brutal attack.
He was discharged and later re-admitted for a illness for which he was undergoing treatment until his death on Sunday, the West Midlands police said in a statement. The incident, captured on a mobile phone, had sparked outrage online.
It showed 19-year-old Coral Millerchip kicking Joginder Singh and knocking him to the ground. The clip also showed the girl spitting at him as he lay dazed on the ground.
A post-mortem examination was conducted on Monday to establish the cause of the death. But the results were inconclusive. Further tests will now be conducted over the coming weeks.
Millerchip, who has pleaded guilty to assaulting the pensioner, is to appear in court later this month for sentencing
