CHANDIGARH: The Punjab police infor med the Punjab and Haryana high court on Thursday that they had deleted the name of US- settled non- resident Indian (NRI) Shingara Singh, a native of Jassomajra village in Nawanshahr district, from the list of ‘non-hardcore terrorists’.
Shingara had submitted that his name had been included in the list maintained at Behram police station in Nawanshahr district. He told the court that as per information received under the RTI Act, the station house officer (SHO), Behram, had informed that no criminal case was pending against him but his name figured in the list of ‘non-hardcore terrorists’. The petitioner had submitted that on account of similarity of his name with one Shingara Singh of Kapurthala, a proclaimed offender having a number of criminal cases pending against him, he was interrogated and harassed by the Punjab police whenever he visited Punjab.
