Ludhiana : The NRIs, who have been declared proclaimed offenders in different cases, will now have to bear the brunt of the NRI wing of the Police Department. The cops have now started attaching the properties of NRI proclaimed offenders (PO).

Recently, the cops did the same in a dowry case in which an NRI woman of Samrala has been declared PO by the court. The case against her was registered in 2012. Her 4 acre land has been attached with the case. SHO Beant Juneja of NRI Police Station said that the woman (Daljeet Kaur) resides in Canada. She along with her husband Kamaljit Singh and son Gurtej Singh were booked in a dowry case in 2012 on the complaint of a Mansooran village resident.

The family didn’t return from Canada even after they were declared proclaimed offenders on Chief Judicial Magistrate Navdeep Kaur on November 8, 2012. So the police had to take stern action.

This is for the first time in Punjab that the police have attached the property of any NRI, said SHO Beant Juneja of NRI Police Station.

According to him, 22 NRIs from the city have been declared POs in connection with several cases like murder, dowry etc.
