Jalandhar : Taking note of news published in the Daily Post on Thursday (‘Youth goes missing in Australia, family fears foul play’), the NRI Sabha Punjab has come forward to urge the foreign agencies to trace the whereabouts of the Punjabi youth in Melbourne, Australia.
NRI Sabha Punjab president Jasvir Gill has written to the Consulate General India in Australia and the Melbourne police urging them to expedite the search operation to trace Shiva Chauhan (27), a delivery boy with a company who had been missing in Melbourne since the night of May 1. Jasvir Gill said that it was a serious matter and the NRI Sabha Punjab besides writing to the official agencies have also informed some NRIs settled abroad to locate the youth, who went missing under mysterious circumstances.
The family and friends of Shiva Chauhan have also started a campaign through social media site Facebook and formed a page ‘Help Find Shiva Chauhan’ updating every minute detail from Australia. They have also uploaded news channel videos highlighting how Shiva went missing all of sudden.
It is pertinent to mention here that Shiva Chauhan had gone for delivering bread on May 1, when he went missing at around 11.30 pm (Australian time). His roommates in Melbourne were the first ones to speak to his family members and informed them.
Shiva was travelling in a Silver Ford Transit Van which was found locked at Hutton Road, Keysborough. The incident had come to light after he failed to reach a location to deliver bread while his phone was switched off. It was also reported in the Australian media that Shiva had last sent a text message to his friend.
His personal belongings including wallet and identification items were also found kept inside the vehicle. Shiva’s family back home in Jalandhar and Beas had been deeply disturbed over the mysterious incident and had approached the Indian Embassy in Melbourne. The family had also spoken to senior official Nirmal Chaudhary while they had also been keeping regularly in touch with the Victoria Police, but to avail.
